Limoilou is actually three neighbourhoods in one: Vieux-Limoilou (close to the river, century-old grid), Lairet (central, more residential), Maizerets (east, near the park). What unites them: a housing stock dominated by duplexes, triplexes, and four-plexes with the exterior staircases typical of Quebec City.
Exterior stairs, our daily routine. Limoilou’s architectural signature is the spiral or straight staircases climbing to 2nd or 3rd floors from the street. Aesthetically beautiful, logistically convenient for us — no need to navigate narrow interior turns. However, they’re slippery in winter: we arrive with salt and scrapers, we secure before hauling big items.
Waves of gentrification. For 15 years, Vieux-Limoilou has attracted young families renovating old plexes. Result: lots of renovation projects, so lots of debris to clear. We work post-reno jobs (old flooring, drywall, replaced doors/windows) in sectors around 3rd Avenue, rue Saint-Vallier East, and avenue des Peupliers. In parallel, long-time residents selling to downsize call us for estates or full cleanouts.
Rental mobility. Sectors farther from 3rd Avenue remain majority rental, with high turnover on July 1. We see lots of post-move cleanouts in Lairet and Maizerets over the summer.
Parking. Good — residential streets are wider than downtown and parking is usually possible without permit during the day. Exception: commercial streets like 3rd Avenue and avenue Chouinard, where we favor mornings.
Local donation organizations. Several mutual aid counters and donation shops in Limoilou (Comptoir Emmaüs, St-Vincent-de-Paul Saint-Pascal). Donations often stay in the neighbourhood — total transparency for the client.
