Bulky item pickup in Quebec City: when the city collection isn’t enough
A sofa too heavy to carry out alone, a treadmill gathering dust in the basement, broken patio furniture, an above-ground pool to take down: we pick up your bulky items in Quebec City right from your home, inside or outside. You don’t have to drag anything to the curb.
City bulky item collection or private pickup: what’s the difference?
The Ville de Québec offers a free bulky item collection that you book through 311 (phone, app or online form). For the city, a bulky item is a household object larger than 0.5 m³ that two people can move without equipment. You carry it to the curb yourself, after 7 p.m. the night before or before 7 a.m. on the day. Fridges and air conditioners need a separate booking, and the service is for residential properties only.
| City collection | ByeBazar | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free | Published prices, confirmed before pickup |
| Timing | By booking, on the collection date | Quote in 2 minutes, pickup in 24-48 hours, sometimes same-day |
| Who carries the items out | You, all the way to the curb | Our crew, from the basement, upstairs or the garage |
| Stores and offices | Not eligible | Yes — see our commercial cleanout |
| Sorting and donation | No | Included: donation, recycling or drop-off centre |
Our honest advice: if the item is already on the ground floor and you can wait for the collection, the city’s is free — use it. We’re the right call when the item is hard to get out, when there are several, when you’re on a deadline, or when it’s a commercial space.
The bulky items we pick up most often
- Exercise equipment: treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, weight rack. Heavy, awkward, and usually in the basement.
- Damaged furniture: torn sofa, sectional, mattress, bed frame, melamine desk — the things charities turn down.
- Outdoor and seasonal: patio furniture, barbecue (without its propane tank), trampoline, artificial Christmas tree, decorations.
- Special heavy items: an upright piano needs specialized equipment; a hot tub or above-ground pool has to be dismantled and is quoted individually.
- Odds and ends: toys, sports gear, knick-knacks, piled-up boxes. It all goes in the same truck.
Most special items have their price listed in the calculator on our pricing page, so you know upfront what you’ll pay.
What happens to your bulky items?
Sorting is included in every pickup. Anything still in good shape goes to local charities. Metal is recycled. The rest goes to the right facility, never dumped by the roadside. Want to drop some items off yourself? Our guide to Quebec City ecocentres lists addresses, hours and access rules.
Getting ready for pickup
- Make a list or take a photo of what’s going. That’s how we give you a firm price upfront.
- Tell us where the items are: ground floor, upstairs, basement, outdoor staircase. Floors carry a surcharge shown in our price grid; with an elevator, it doesn’t apply.
- Remove propane tanks and drain the gas and oil from small engines (lawn mower, snowblower). They’re hazardous materials we don’t carry with the rest.
- Flag what needs taking apart: trampoline, play structure, above-ground pool. We include it in the quote.
- Group everything into one visit. A garage, a basement and a few living-room items often fit in a single load — see also our garage cleanout and basement cleanout services.
