Junk removal in Old Quebec, what to know
Old Quebec packs 7,000 residents into Quebec City’s most logistically challenging sector. Real constraints, but for a team that works here regularly, they become manageable.
Vehicle access. Narrow streets (rue Saint-Louis, rue Sainte-Anne, rue des Remparts) accommodate only one truck at a time. In Lower Town (Petit-Champlain, Place Royale), it’s worse — access sometimes time-restricted. Our solution: we use more compact trucks for these addresses and schedule outside peak tourist hours (May-October). If your street has traffic restrictions, we know them.
Centuries-old staircases. Most Old Quebec apartments are in 3-4 story walk-ups, often with narrow spiral staircases and landings as tight as 90 cm. For sofas, mattresses, dressers, we systematically disassemble. We’ve developed techniques to get a queen mattress through a staircase that on paper wouldn’t accept it.
Concierges and condo rules. Several Old Quebec condos (buildings near Château Frontenac, rue d’Auteuil) require advance notice for main elevator use and require protective padding. We handle coordination with the concierge or condo board if you give us contact info.
Tourists. June through October, working in Old Quebec means slaloming between pedestrians. We favor early morning windows (7-9 AM) or evenings for these addresses.
Typical projects here. Mainly: short/medium-term tenant apartment clearouts (Airbnb, Laval exchange students), estate cleanouts in lofts above shops, renovations of heritage buildings.
Where the truck simply can’t go. The split between Upper and Lower Town is the constraint people forget. Addresses off Côte de la Montagne or near the Escalier Casse-Cou can’t be reached by truck at all, so we stage on the nearest wide point and carry pieces out by hand down the slope. The tiny heritage condos carved into buildings along rue Couillard and rue Garneau rarely have an elevator, which is why we plan the carry route before we quote.
