Saint-Jean-Baptiste — Quebec City’s bohemian neighbourhood, squeezed between Old Quebec and Montcalm. Lively rue Saint-Jean, century-old buildings, narrow staircases, many young and creative tenants. We work here regularly. From $99, no surcharge for complex stairs.

Junk removal in Saint-Jean-Baptiste, what to know

Saint-Jean-Baptiste, 9,000 residents, is the densest of Quebec City’s central neighbourhoods. Built on the cliffside since the 19th century, the sector features tightly packed buildings, narrow alleys, and an uneven topography — some streets descend in stair-steps toward Lower Town.

The staircase marathon. Most Saint-Jean-Baptiste units are on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th floor. Interior stairs are systematically narrow (under 80 cm wide sometimes) and landings are small. Getting a queen mattress or 3-seat sofa out requires technique. We systematically disassemble beds, tables, and bookshelves before descent. Fridges, we sometimes lay horizontal in the stairs to fit.

No parking nearby. Rue Saint-Jean, avenue de Salaberry, rue d’Aiguillon — residential parking with permits almost everywhere, very limited street parking often metered. Our solution: we stop for 15-20 minutes with hazard lights, load, move. For big cleanouts (1/2 truck+), we arrange ahead with you for either a temporary permit or an off-restriction time window.

Young, mobile population. A large share of residents are university students, young professionals in creative fields, or artists. Many shared 4½s with frequent turnover — apartments emptied every summer (July 1 leases). Intense period for us: mid-June to mid-July.

Typical calls here. Small volumes (mostly 1/8 truck): a sofa left by a departing roommate, a broken IKEA bookshelf, worn mattresses. Often same-day requests because the tenant must hand over keys the next day.

Easy sorting and donations. Several donation organizations (Laboratoire Saint-Jean-Baptiste, mutual aid centres) are right in the neighbourhood. Reusable items often stay in the area — donation documented on site.
